U.S. Virgin Islands Honeymoon Trip

Hello! Welcome or welcome back to my blog.

Today I am going to be talking about our honeymoon trip! Our honeymoon trip was in 2020 so some things may be different now. I know the resort has added more experiences since we have been there! The nice thing about the USVI is that they are U.S. territory which means you do not need a passport to go there.

Let’s dive into it!

Where To Stay

We stayed at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort. It is currently the only all-inclusive resort in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is family owned and managed which can give it a more personal experience. Bolongo Bay is about 20-25 minutes from the airport. When you get to the airport, there are tons of taxi drivers ready to take you wherever you need to go.

Once you get to Bolongo Bay Beach Resort check in is easy and they show you to your room. Bolongo has lots to do on their resort but they also have taxi and bus drivers around that can take you other places as well.

We absolutely loved our trip and had a great time. I think my only “complaint” is that the rooms were not very nice/updated but that wasn’t too big of a deal for us since we were out and about everyday.

We had extended our trip 2 more nights (we loved the USVI that much!!) and decided to stay at Margaritaville Vacation Club by Wyndham which is NorthEast about 15-20 minutes from Bolongo Bay.

Margaritaville is a beautiful and HUGE resort. However it is not all-inclusive so meals can add up quick and get pricey. The beach wasn’t that great at Margaritaville but they had multiple pools and little shops to see. I’m not sure if the beach is always like that or if it was because of a bad storm or hurricane but we didn’t spend any time there. We chose the pools and Coki Beach instead.

Alright! Now onto the fun stuff. The things we did/what you can do while in the USVI.

Bolongo’s website does a great job of telling you what you can do on the resort and off the resort as well. You can snorkel, paddle board, kayak, and they even have a snorkel booze hunt if you’re into that. We loved paddle boarding around Bolongo Bay and looking for sea turtles! They also have (not even sure what to call them) float circles anchored in the water that you can swim to and hang out in. Relax in a hammock or play some pool-side bingo. They have a “Swim With The Turtles” excursion, Sunset Sail, Scuba Diving, Sail to St. John National Park, Sail to Water Island/Honeymoon Beach, and Shipwreck Snorkeling. (And plenty more off the resort too!)

We really enjoyed hanging out in the pool, they even have a swim-up bar. If you’re lucky you might see an iguana come hang out on the pool deck! 😉

We absolutely loved the Sail to Water Island/Honeymoon Beach. We got to stop and snorkel in some different places, the water is AMAZING in the USVI. It is so beautifully blue and clear. We saw some cool sea life while snorkeling off the boat! We got to hang out and swim on Honeymoon Beach (which was fitting since we were honeymooners) and they have a little restaurant so you can enjoy lunch on the beach! The catamaran is beautiful and such a fun and scenic sail to be on. Definitely recommend adding it to your stay! Bolongo Bay was kind enough to have us on this sail and again on the Sunset Sail free of charge!

The Sunset Sail is also a fun evening with beautiful scenery. Enjoying the breeze and beautiful sunset with snacks and drinks!

Now, for some off-resort activities.

The USVI has a lot to offer and you can even see more things to do on Bolongo’s website but, what I recommend the most is Trunk Bay and Coki Beach.

I cannot recommend these two places enough. If you are going to visit the USVI you must see these places.

Trunk Bay

Trunk Bay is on St. John’s Island so you will need to take the ferry (simple and not a long ride). From there we took a bus with a bunch of others going to Trunk Bay. Whenever you are ready to leave there are multiple bus drivers you can talk to and they will take you back to the ferry. Trunk Bay is consistently voted in the top 10 beaches in the world. I would go back as many times as I could. It is breathtaking. The water is as clear as you can imagine and the beautiful white sandy beaches are kept clean. You can snorkel up to the big rock where the reef is and see tons of sea life. The drive from the ferry to Trunk Bay is very beautiful as well, definitely worth the trip.

Coki Beach

So from there we visited Coki Beach because it is super close to the Margaritaville Resort. It is located on St. Thomas so you will only need to take a taxi or bus. If you are staying at Margaritaville, they have a shuttle that will take you there and will come pick you up as well! Coki Beach is super fun because there are little gift shops and food shacks along the beach you can stop and shop around at. We were walking through the shops and saw they were selling “fish food” at one of them, so we asked the lady working about it and bought some. She told us to go in the water and scatter the food around us and let the fish come to us. I didn’t think it would work because there was no fish near us when we got in the water but we decided to try it anyway. Well to my surprise the fish came slowly and soon enough we were surrounded by TONS of fish. It was terrifying and incredible at the same time. The beach itself was absolutely stunning but feeding the fish there while we were mid-thigh deep in the water was an experience I will never forget.

Coral World Ocean Park

Another place that might be worth checking out is Coral World Ocean Park. We didn’t end up going but we talked to a family staying at Bolongo Bay Resort and they said they had a blast being able to get in the water with animals. They have different kinds of experiences, animals you can swim with, and other encounters. It is right next to Coki Beach so you could hit them both in the same day!

Overall our trip was amazing and something we will cherish forever. The USVI will forever hold a special place in our heart being it was also our honeymoon. I highly recommend to visit if you can.
